Kurt Cobain‘s life and death fast became rock n roll legend.

The worldwide success of his band, Nirvana, defined the music scene in the early 1990s and their songs spoke to and for a generation.

Music journalist Charles R. Cross, a veteran of the Seattle music scene, relates this extraordinary story of artistic brilliance and the pain that extinguished it. Heavier Than Heaven is the definitive life of one of the twentieth century’s most creative and troubled music geniuses.

I’ve been a huge Nirvana fan since I discovered rock/grunge music in my early teens.

The life and death of Kurt Cobain – the face behind the band and one of the most talented, troubled individuals music has ever seen – has remained a bit of a mystery to me, no matter how many videos watched or articles read, so to have finally read the haunting and agonising story of his life feels extraordinarily bittersweet.

To any of you that are fans of Nirvana or Cobain, I urge you to read this book.

It’s heartbreaking, awful, and a seriously tough read, but to be able to delve into the dark and outrageous mind and life of Kurt Cobain is something I’ve always wanted to do, and something you need to do to understand why this young man was as broken and disturbed as he was. From beginning to end, you’re given a front row seat into all the deep and dark corners of his existence, and all that built him up and broke him down.

I’ve discovered things I wish I never had, and many that have explained a great deal. I knew from the start I’d have my heart broken, but in no way was I ready for much of what I read. I’m well and truly at a loss for words.

The author has captured each chapter of Kurt’s short life outstandingly, to the point that, by the time I’d finished the book, I felt like I knew him from the start to the end.The research and dedication put into this biography is phenomenal, and I’m so grateful that somebody took the time to tell the story of Kurt – the brilliant but tortured front man of the band that changed rock n roll forever.
